Joe Michels is the founder of The Michels Law Firm. He formed the Michels Law Firm in 2012 after working as a partner at some the largest law firms in the country for over 25 years. Joe’s practice focuses on healthcare law and litigation. He has successfully represented individuals and business of all sizes at both trial, mediation, arbitration, and appeal in state and federal court.

Joe has a detailed understanding of the legal challenges facing healthcare providers and related businesses. Over his career, he has handled lawsuits and regulatory actions involving physician credentialing, peer review, Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse claims, HIPAA compliance, anti-kickback statutes, physician non-compete agreements, health insurance payment disputes, and employment discrimination. Joe also helps physicians solve legal challenges in their business relationships, such as forming or departing a group practice, partnership disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and contract disputes.

Beyond his legal practice, Joe dedicates his time to public service and the betterment of his community. Joe has twice served as the mayor of the town of Oak Ridge North and is a past trustee of the Conroe Independent School District. He was the chairman and a board member of the Woodlands Economic Development Partnership, in addition to serving on the board of the Woodlands Waterway Arts Counsel. Joe also dedicates his time to the Montgomery County business community, having served as a board member and the vice president of the Woodlands Chamber of Commerce. Joe is currently a board member of the Memorial Hermann – The Woodlands Advisory Counsel.
